~ MIDLIFE TRANSITS OVERVIEW~
Finding Your TRUE Self
The support of an Astrologer during your 40’s-60’s can help align your choices with your values and goals, leading to a more fulfilling life during this important stage.
I’ve never dreaded moving into another decade. I was excited to turn 30. It was like passing the threshold to “real” adulthood. I turned 40 full of excitement about getting married several months later. 50? Well, ask me in a few years.
Even so, our 40s and 50s can be complicated decades filled at once with monotony and upheaval, excitement and dread. Whether we’re having babies or sending kids to college, big changes often occur during these decades. If they don’t, well then that’s potentially a source of discontent because we want more for our lives, or at least we want something different.
I started seriously studying Astrology right in the middle of my Uranus Opposition, at the height of the pandemic. I am grateful that I had the time and space to “question the status quo” and test out a different path than the one I was on. This period, and the Saturn Opposition that came on its tail, could have been far more difficult periods for me had I not been going through changes and transitions in my life that I had chosen and was excited about.
I am grateful that I was called to Astrology when I was, because “knowing is half the battle,” and Astrology told me that this was a stage in my life where there might be some bumps in the road. The Astrology of Midlife can offer tremendous insights to those going through this transformative phase. It's all about diving into the astrological aspects that occur during these decades, shedding light on the highs and lows that come our way.
Midlife Crisis or Midlife Awakening: An Astrological Perspective
As we navigate life’s twists and turns, we often find ourselves at a crossroads known as midlife. This phase is notorious for its identity crises, commonly referred to as the "midlife crisis." However, from an astrological standpoint, it's more accurate to see this as a Midlife Awakening—a transformative period that can be better understood through the cosmic dance of the stars.
The Traditional Midlife Crisis
Traditionally, a midlife crisis is characterized by a sense of restlessness, dissatisfaction, and a quest for meaning that often strikes individuals in their 40s or 50s. This period can be marked by abrupt changes like buying a flashy sports car, pursuing new hobbies, or even making radical life decisions like changing careers or ending long-term relationships. But is this really a crisis, or is it an awakening to deeper truths because our powers of self-reflection are stronger than when we were younger?
Astrology's Perspective
Astrology offers a unique lens through which we can view these midlife shifts. It helps us understand that the positions of the planets at our birth have a profound influence on our life's path and timing. When we reach midlife, we often experience significant astrological transits and progressions that coincide with our inner transformation.
Midlife Transits
When we talk about Midlife Transits in Astrology, we're really discussing some key moments in life:
Uranus Opposition (typically between ages 38-44): This is when Uranus challenges the status quo in your life. This transit encourages us to break free from societal expectations and embrace our authentic selves. It can feel like a lightning bolt of change, urging us to let go of what no longer serves us.
Saturn Opposition (typically around ages 42-45): This transit is a significant point of reflection and challenge in your midlife journey, often bringing up questions about your life's direction and purpose.
Chiron Return (around ages 49-51): A time of healing and reflection.
Saturn Return (around ages 27-30 and 57-60): Yep, it happens twice (or maybe three times!) Once when you're finding your footing as an adult, and again when you're entering your golden years. We focus on the second Saturn Return when we talk about midlife transits, which encourages us to reevaluate our life choices and goals. It's a time when we confront our limitations and make essential course corrections.
Neptune Square (ages 40-42 and 65-67): Your dreams and illusions might meet reality.
Pluto Square (ages 36-38 and 66-68): Deep transformation is in the cards.
Oh, and let's not forget the Jupiter Return, which usually happens in your mid-to-late 40s or at age 50. It's like a cosmic boost of positivity.
Midlife Astrology boils down to one big quest: finding and embracing your TRUE SELF.
Sounds simple, right? Well, not always. Many of us spend years living up to other people's expectations or societal norms. But the good news is that Astrology can guide us through this maze.
It helps us uncover our strengths, recognize our weaknesses, and reconnect with our passions. By staying true to ourselves, we can make choices that align with our values and dreams. That's the ticket to a more fulfilling life during this somewhat bewildering phase.
But wait, there's more! Midlife Astrology isn't just about personal enlightenment. It's also a nifty tool for understanding our relationships. By peeking at the astrological currents affecting those around us, we gain a deeper understanding of their journeys. This can foster empathy and compassion—qualities that can be incredibly comforting when midlife throws curveballs our way.
In a nutshell, Midlife Astrology is your trusty companion for personal growth and self-discovery during this pivotal stage of life. Whether you're facing hurdles or opportunities, it's here to offer insights that'll help you navigate this transformative period with a clearer sense of purpose.
